Pahang Darul Makmur - Introduction

Pahang is located in Peninsular Malaysia. It is the largest state in the mainland and the third largest in the country after Sabah and Sarawak. Bordered by the states of Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Perak at the west side, Kelantan at the north, Terengganu at the east and Johor, some parts of the east coast overlooks the South China Sea.

Known in full as Pahang Darul Makmur, which means Abode of Tranquility, its 1 million population here is divided among the many towns located in the state. Its capital is in Kuantan while the royal residence is located in the town of Pekan. There are mainly 3 main geographical landscapes in the states, the Highlands, the coastal areas and the rainforests.

Due to this landscape, Pahang is one of the most attractive states in the country in terms of tourism and vacation. The highlands here include the ‘Malaysian Playground’ the Genting Highlands. Apart from its world class casino here, families and folks from all over the country and region come to this highlands to enjoy the amusement parks and facilities provided in within its resort. Cameron Highlands is another attraction that is frequented by many to visit a more serene township that is famous for its tea plantations. Fraser’s Hill is a resort style highland that was formerly a summer escape for the British colonies.

Pahang’s coastal areas are also renowned for its rows and rows of sandy beaches and resorts. Centralized around the capital of Kuantan, here one can visit the many resorts located around Teluk Cempedak and Cherating, including the internationally renowned Club Med. From here, one could also head out to the famous islands of Pulau Tioman.

The country’s biggest national park is also located in within the state. The Taman Negara National Park is a naturally rich rainforest that houses many resorts and chalets for the nature lovers. From here, one could also try some mountain climbing to Gunung Tahan, the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia, known to be one of the hardest peaks to climb in the country. For those who prefer a quiet and serene holidaying environment, visit the lakes of Tasik Cini and Tasik Bera.
