Cuti Cuti Malaysia - Visit Malaysia Year 2007

To mark Malaysia’s 50 years of independence, the government of Malaysia launched the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 in a mega global scale. Expected increase in number of tourists from 15 million currently to 20 million, this nationwide event seek to showcase Malaysia to the visiting tourist from all over the world.

The Visit Malaysia Year 2007 kickstarted with a bang filled with fireworks and much fanfare, most of which took place in Dataran Merdeka just before the stroke of midnight 31st December 2006.

This event seeks to attract more tourists to Malaysia to show them what the country has to offer. From travel packages to cultural events all year round, the tourist will be able to savour an experience like no other.

The first event to kick off Visit Malaysia Year 2007 is the Flora Fest held from the 20th January to 4th February. Held in the Klang Valley and the Government Administrative City of Putrajaya, one will be able to indulge in the beauty and colourful demonstration of flower display. Themed ‘Colour of Harmony’, the event will transform the city into a colourful floral garden. This event will include a Floral Parade in Putrajaya.

Among the public holidays during the first 2 months of 2007 are Federal Territory Day, where there will be fireworks display and cultural shows, Thaipusam where one can experience at Batu Caves, and Chinese New Year, celebrated by the Chinese all over the world to welcome the year of the Boar. One can find these public holidays to be harmoniously observed and practiced in the country with shopping malls putting up elaborate decorations and cultural presentations.

There will also be a Malaysian GP Sale 2007 from the 24th March to 22nd April, as a pre-event leading to the Petronas Malaysian F1 Grand Prix (6th to 8th April). 25th May to 2nd June will be the World Harvest Festival and Gawai Dayak Sarawak. Held in East Malaysia, these festivals are celebrated to mark the end of a successful season. Mostly held around the Eastern state of Sarawak, the Gawai Festival are always filled with cultural performances, events and celebrations alike. A similar event is being held in Sabah, (the other East Malaysian State) from 30th May to 31st May known as the Tadau Kaamtan by the largest ethnic group, the Kadazan.

From 25th May to 27th May, the Johor International Orchid Show will take place in the southern state Johor, one of the world’s renown producer of orchids,.The city of Johor Bahru, will line up their streets to showcase of orchids from all over the world.

Another major event in this calendar would be Colours of Malaysia, held from the 26th May to 10th June 2007. this is where the various cultures and crafts of the Malaysian society will congregate for a 2 week event filled with various performances and shows.

For the shoppers, the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival will be on from 16th June to 2nd September. This is where the whole country goes on a major sale event and the shopper will be spoilt for choice in shopping for the latest trends and fashion.

From 8th to 10th June, a trip to the Northern State of Malaysia, Penang will host the Penang International Dragon Boat Festival. One will be able to experience the competitive atmosphere while enjoying the scenery of colourful boats and roaring supporters.
